I'm empathetic. By that, I mean not only can I imagine myself in someone else's place, I can feel it – physically as well as emotionally. I don't shut that off to protect myself, but I have learned to distance myself from the chronically miserable – the folks who enjoy their misery and really don't want anything but someone to share in it.
